Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic is proud to celebrate National Physicians’ Day on May 1st by recognizing the dedication, leadership, and impact of our physicians who care for patients and athletes every day.
We are especially honoured to highlight Dr. Kevin Willits, one of Fowler Kennedy’s Orthopaedic Surgeons, who was recently inducted into the Western Football Wall of Champions at Western University.
Dr. Willits completed a Masters Degree in Sport Medicine at Western University under Dr. Peter J. Fowler in 1992 and completed his M.D. in 1996 at McMaster University. Dr. Willits then returned to Western University to begin his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. Upon his return to Western, Dr. Willits joined the Western Mustangs Football Coaching Staff as a Defensive Backfield Coach from 1996-2000.
Following his residency, he completed fellowship training in the United States at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa Bay and the Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, Mississippi. These fellowships involved subspecialty training in Orthopaedic Trauma and Sport Medicine Surgery.
In 2003, he returned to London, Ontario to begin his practice at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic while also resuming his coaching role with the Western Mustangs Football program. In 2009, Dr. Willits became the team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Mustangs.
Throughout his time with the team, the Western Mustangs have captured 8 Yates Cups and 2 Vanier Cups. Over the years, Dr. Willits has cared for and operated on countless student-athletes, helping them return to the sport they love.
Dr. Willits is also the Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for London Knights OHL Hockey Club from 2019 – present. During this tenure the team captured an OHL Championship in 2024 and a Memorial Cup CHL Championship in 2025.
Today, Dr. Willits is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and lives in London with his wife, Karen, and their children.
