Laura graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Physical education in 2012. In 2013, she started her academic journey at Western University, graduating from a Masters of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2013, and her Masters of Physical Therapy in 2017. Laura also obtained her PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Science at Western, studying knee osteoarthritis with a goal of improving patient’s understanding of their condition and treatment options while improving access to care for patients considering total knee replacement surgery. Laura has also completed level 1 of the Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy.
Laura is currently an Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences program at Western University and co-founder (with Dr. Kristen Barton) of ‘Joint Management’, a free online platform for patients with mild to moderate OA which includes a tele-health physiotherapy option. This platform is currently being vetted as part of a research study led by Dr. Jane Thornton (Principal Investigator).
Laura is currently completing a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at University of Colorado in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Stevens-Lapsley, studying adapting rehabilitation interventions for telehealth settings including individuals after total joint replacement, COVID-19, and medically complex older adults, integrating remote outcome and treatment assessment using wearable technologies.
Laura has participated in many sports in her youth including competitive swimming and volleyball within the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) program and has played soccer in the premier division of the London & Area Women’s Soccer League (LAWSL) for nearly 15 years. She has interest and experience in treating a wide variety of conditions from concussion to musculoskeletal injuries with athletes and active members of the community. Laura has practiced as a physiotherapist at Fowler-Kennedy since 2017 and continues to provide virtual physiotherapy services to patients within Ontario during her research sabbatical.
