A concussion is a brain injury caused by a complex physical process affecting the brain, induced by biomechanical forces”. Concussions are a significant and growing concern, especially for teenagers and young adults involved in sport. At Fowler Kennedy, we are focused on taking the time to diagnose and educate patients about sport injury concussions, and we provide active treatment to enhance recovery. In addition to clinical management, Fowler Kennedy is actively involved in concussion research. As members of the London Brain Consortium, Fowler Kennedy and its partners are putting patients first and continuing to strive for improved diagnosis, management and prevention of sport concussion.
What is Baseline Testing for Concussion?
Baseline ‘tests’ are evaluations performed on an individual prior to any injury. These may include physical assessments, personal medical history, risk assessment, cognitive testing, balance assessment, visual testing and visual oculomotor screening. There is no single test that is useful on its own. These tests are simply comparative measures used by clinicians to assist with post-injury evaluation and management and must be used in the context of complete concussion care.
