Primary Care Sport Medicine

The practice of primary care sport medicine has, over the past couple of decades, developed into an entity unto itself. It has become a well respected discipline in it's own right. The Primary Care Sport Medicine Physicians at The Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic have all successfully completed the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine diploma examination. This credentialing has resulted from a year long fellowship program and an exam, both written and oral which emphasizes the assessment and treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Other components included within the sport medicine realm include wellness of the athlete, asthma, the female athlete triad and any other physical element that may be affecting activity and sport performance.

This diversity in sport medicine allows the Sport Medicine Physician to offer complete care to the athlete. Many active individuals as well as athletes of today feel that they need a physician who is up to date on activity related injuries and is interested in Sport performance and getting them back onto the playing field or the activity of choice as fast as is reasonably possible.

At this Clinic we have access to the latest in assessment, diagnostic and treatment modalities. We have 8 Primary Care physicians as well as 1 or 2 Fellows. (see Education Primary Care Fellowship / PGY3 for further information) The Physiotherapy department is specifically dedicated to returning the athlete to action. With the Orthopaedic surgeons on staff we have ready access to their consultative and surgical services and as well as their Clinics.
