The London Sports Hall of Fame Recognizes 10 Inaugural Inductees.

Granite plaques honouring the 10 inaugural inductees were unveiled on November 7, 2002 at the new John Labatt Centre in London. The inductees were officially recognized at a sold out dinner held in London later that evening. Among those honoured was Dr. Peter Fowler from the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic.

Peter Fowler

  • An internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon, he is a pioneer in the treatment of sports-related injuries.
  • Along with Dr. Jack Kennedy, he established a sport medicine clinic at the University of Western Ontario - now called the Fowler-Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic - that has an outstanding international reputation.
  • Outstanding swimmer at age group, club and university levels.
  • Along with competing well for the Western Mustangs, he swam for Canada in the Pan-Am Games in 1955 and '59.

Other inductees include Bob Gage, one of the best-known amateur sports reporters in Canada: Jack Fairs, catcher with the 1948 London Majors and long time coach at the University of Western Ontario; Paul Hauch, international swimmer and founder of the London Y Aquatic Club; John Metras, Western Athletic Director from 1945 to 1972; John Campbell, the world's best harness racing driver; Leslie Thompson-Willie, four-time Olympic medallist in rowing; George (Mooney) Gibson, one of Canada's best baseball players; the 1948 London Majors, the National Baseball Congress North American champions; and Sandy Somerville, one of his time's most outstanding golfers.
